A New Version of Thorgal

24 Dec

I’ve just finished making another version of Thorgal for my eldest son. My prototype was for his younger brother and I’d promised to make him one too. It’s hot off the needles (so still unblocked). We tried to do a little photo shoot but the boys were a little bit too excited. His brother is also wearing his, so we have matching tops 😉

Thorgal, a Children Top

23 Sep

My latest design, Thorgal, was just released in the Fall 2011 Edition of Petite Purls. The pattern is available on the Petite Purls site for free, make sure to also check the rest of the edition, lots of cute patterns!

Thorgal is inspired by the traditional yoke sweaters but I wanted to make a more modern looking version with texture while following the traditional construction. The name of the sweater comes from the Norse god Thor, as a reference to the Nordic origin of yoke sweaters.

As a mother of boys, I find that there are many more fun knitting patterns for girls than for boys. This is why I wanted the design to be suitable for both boys and girls and I think the color choice will allow to make it boy-ish or girly, as desired.
