Some Of My Favourite Projects

15 May

I love it when I spot a finished object on Ravelry made from one of my designs, I get excited every single time!

Here are a few of my favourites

Blois Socks by Kybosh. I love, love the yarn she chose for these, I think it’s a perfect match.

Sunkissed by pooki. Beautiful colour combination.

2-in-1 Easy Swaddler by Jardinrouge. The yarn works very well and I love the little flower detail. Of course, it helps to see the beautiful baby in it :D

Sock-Yarn Beret by WickedStitch. Awww, the matching beret for the doll, so sweet!

Thorgal by Synnove. A beautiful colour combination for this version.

Grow with Me Beanie by jknitsmith. Lovely colours and the pompom makes a great addition.

Sock Yarn Newborn Mittens by CandyCorn343. What can I say, those colours are gorgeous, and the composition!

And there’s more, I just can’t share them all :)

Green Tython – A Boy’s Tie

28 Apr

My latest design, Green Tython, was just published in the Spring 2012 edition of Petite Purls. As always with Petite Purls, this edition is full of delightful children designs, which I encourage you to check out. The added bonus is that they are all available for free. :D
You will find the pattern here.

This design was inspired by my 8-year old son, Logan, who is fascinated by snakes. I modeled the tie after the Green Python, a constrictor snake as I thought the tie would be a whimsical reminder of this fact.

Sizes
Boy from about 4 to 12 years

Finished Measurements
Length: 105 cm / 41 inches (without tongue)
Width: 8.25 cm / 3.25 inches at widest point

Materials
Knit Picks® Felici Sock Yarn 75% Merino, 25% Nylon; 218 yards / 198 meters per 1.76 ounce / 50 gram skein;
Model knit in Green Veggies colorway (no longer available); suggested alternate #24401 Aquarium; 1 skein

Recommended needle sizes
US 1½/2.5 mm 30 inch or longer (for magic loop)

Notions

Marker
Cable needle
Tapestry needle
a little bit of red yarn in a similar weight for the tongue
black yarn or thread to embroider the eyes

Gauge
36 sts and 46 rounds = 4 inches in St st.
Gauge is not critical to this design

Necessary skills
Toe-up cast on, knitting in the round, simple cable, increases, decreases, simple embroidery

The tie is knit in the round from the wide end up (bottom of the tie) and shaped with increases and decreases and is totally seamless. The back of the tie is knit in St st throughout. It can be left as is for a classic look or a tongue and eyes can be added for the full snake look.

Fridolin the Bunny

23 Jan

My latest pattern, Fridolin, is now available for purchase.

Fridolin’s long, skinny legs and arms together with his long floppy ears make him perfect for small hands. He can easily be grabbed and carried around. He also makes a perfect snugly companion for anyone, who could resist his charm?

You can make Fridolin different sizes by using different yarn weights. Below are the information for sock yarn using two strands and worsted weight yarn, you can of course use a different yarn type if you want but keep in mind that the size will also be different.

20 Jan

Just a little teaser while the pattern is being tested…

I have a new toy pattern coming out soon, it’s currently being tested by a few trustworthy testers and should be published within 10 days.

The pattern is for a toy rabbit called Fridolin. Here are a few pictures of my two prototypes, already getting some children love.

Hope you’ll like Fridolin as much as I and my boys like him :)

A New Version of Thorgal

24 Dec

I’ve just finished making another version of Thorgal for my eldest son. My prototype was for his younger brother and I’d promised to make him one too. It’s hot off the needles (so still unblocked). We tried to do a little photo shoot but the boys were a little bit too excited. His brother is also wearing his, so we have matching tops ;)

Ici Paris Beret – KAL starting 1st December 2011

30 Nov

Today, the European Fiber Network (EFN) released my latest pattern, the Ici Paris Beret.

The pattern is available in both English and French!

They are organising a KAL for it starting tomorrow, 1st December. Here is the description from the pattern page:

Our December designer was inspired by her native home of Paris. And what could better call to mind this most romantic of European capitals than a beret!

In winter the Parisian sky is almost always grey, captured eloquently by the soft shades in this stunning yarn.
The iconic symbol of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, is reflected in the pattern of the whimsical lace.

Clever crown decreases are beautifully incorporated into the lace. The X’s and O’s circling the cabled brim are a nod to Corinne’s partner and the English custom of signing love letters with symbols for hugs and kisses.

This traditional, yet whimsical hat, even ties in to Corinne’s current home, Germany, by using the country’s most famous sock yarn, Wollmeise.

Come with us on a jaunt to Paris, and knit the Ici Paris Beret as a sentimental holiday gift or to stuff your own stocking!

New Pattern coming soon, and a KAL!

22 Nov

I can’t reveal much right now as this has to stay secret until it’s published, but I should have a new pattern released on 1st December for which a KAL will be organised…

What I can say is that it uses less than a 100g skein of sock yarn and that I used this yummy “Feldmäuschen” colourway of Wollmeise sock yarn for it:

So, get your yarn ready and keep your eyes open for more info :)

2nd Anniversary Giveaway

31 Oct

I started designing 2 years ago and I want to do something to mark the occasion! I still have a way to go, but I really feel that I’ve come a long way from my first tries two years ago.

I would like to give away any 2 of my patterns (ebooks excluded) to 2 persons. All you have to do to take part in the giveaway is to comment on this post and tell me which of my patterns you prefer and why. If you want to also tell me what kind of patterns you’d like to see, don’t hesitate.

My own personal favourite pattern is Cretaceous. I really like the different knitting directions and I like how the two different colour yarns emphasize that. I also like the simple lace that highlights the border.

You have until Friday, 4th November 11pm (GMT+1) to leave your comment, don’t forget to include contact information so I can get in touch if you are a winner. I will use a random number generator to select the winners. Good luck! :D

Grow With Me Beanie

10 Oct

This hat was born out of necessity. I needed to knit woolly hats for my two boys and had a huge stash of sock yarn (I always do). I wanted the knitting to be fast and the hat to be warm so I decided to use two threads of sock yarn.

Also, I decided to make a hat that would last more than one season, hence the beanie. It fits a wide range of head sizes, from toddlers to teenagers (and even adults with small to medium head size). I have tried it on an 18-month old and it fits my small-ish woman head.

The length is simply adjusted by turning the brim, which provides extra warmth on the ears. It is perfect as a basic winter hat for children for every day use thanks to its simplicity and the hardwearing qualities of sock yarn.

Basically, this hat should fit any child, perfect if you want to knit for a child but are unsure of his/her head size.

A Pair of Socks for My Boy

1 Oct

I just finished a pair of socks for my 7-year old. This was long overdue since the first sock was ready back in June, yes, June! Anyway, the sweet boy was patient and was very pleased today to finally have a complete pair.

I knit a pair of Hiss, using some leftover Wollmeise for the toe, a Regia cotton blend for the heel and a standard Regia sock yarn for the ribbing. The foot and leg is made in yummy Knit Picks Stroll Multi, I love this colour!

But, enough talk, here are a few pictures.

Thorgal, a Children Top

23 Sep

My latest design, Thorgal, was just released in the Fall 2011 Edition of Petite Purls. The pattern is available on the Petite Purls site for free, make sure to also check the rest of the edition, lots of cute patterns!

Thorgal is inspired by the traditional yoke sweaters but I wanted to make a more modern looking version with texture while following the traditional construction. The name of the sweater comes from the Norse god Thor, as a reference to the Nordic origin of yoke sweaters.

As a mother of boys, I find that there are many more fun knitting patterns for girls than for boys. This is why I wanted the design to be suitable for both boys and girls and I think the color choice will allow to make it boy-ish or girly, as desired.

Sizes
2 years 4 years, 6 years, 8 years, 10 years, 12 years
Shown in size 2 and 8 years

Recommended needle size
US #8/5 mm circular needle and dpns for sleeves (optional) or size needles needed to obtain gauge

Notions
1 stitch marker
Stitch holders or scrap yarn
Tapestry needle

Gauge
17 sts and 25 rnds = 4 inches in St st

Blois Socks Pattern is Now Available for Purchase

5 Aug

You can now buy the Blois sock pattern directly from Ravelry by clicking on the “Buy Now” link below

The name of these socks comes from the Blois Castle (in the Loire Valley, in France). One of its most famous pieces of architecture is a magnificent spiral staircase. The side twist in this pattern reminded me of this spiral staircase. It is also the region of origin from my mum’s family and I have fond memories of visiting my Great-Aunt there as a child.

These socks with gusset and heel flap are knit toe-up.
